Original 1932 Purple Heart Medal #58878, Named: John A. Fischer, Split Wrap Brooch. Original 1920 Victory Medal w/ Meuse-Argonne & Defensive Sector Clasps. Ribbon drapes tested U.V. negative as shown in photo #14. Research included.
United States Army Private John A. Fischer (serial #2433542) was born Aug. 24th 1892 in Minster, Ohio. Fischer was a machinist before he enlisted in the United States Army April 26th 1918. Records show him with the 16th Company 4th training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade May 3rd 1918. Records then show Fischer with H Company 330th Infantry Aug. 1st 1918. He lastly served in Company D, 16th Infantry. The Pvt. participated in combat operations that liberated the little village of Fléville in the Argonne forest region on 4 October 1918. This feat was significant in that the 16th Infantry was the only regiment in the entire First Army to seize its main objective on the first day of the Meuse-Argonne Campaign. Fischer served in the American Expeditionary Force from June 12th 1918 - Feb. 11th 1919. He was severely wounded around Oct. 10th 1918. Pvt. Fischer was honorable discharged April 11th 1919, 40% disabled. He passed away June 22nd 1973 at the Veterans Medical Center in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio.
