1st Sergeant Frank Fair
United States Army 1st Sgt. Frank Fair (service #743219) was born in Oden, Arkansas in 1882 Frank was a farmer in his early life before his military career.
Frank Enlisted in the Army as a Pvt. with the 15th Infantry on June 27th 1906, in Oklahoma City, OK. Pvt Fair was transfer to H Company, 5th Infantry & served during the second Cuban Occupation know as the Cuban Pacification. For his service in Cuba, Fair was Issued Cuban Pacification Medal No. 700. Fair was discharged at the end of his enlistment on June 26th 1909 at Platsburg Barracks, New York.
A week later Fair reenlisted with the 16th Infantry, in Cole, Ohio. He served with the 16th until he was Honorably Discharged on June 30th 1912. A little over a week later on July 8th 1912 Fair reenlisted with the 16th Infantry for 3 years in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was Honorably Discharged on again July 7th 1915.
Two days later Sgt. Fair reenlisted with Co. B of the 53rd Infantry, 6th Division. Sgt. Fair sailed for Europe June 28th 1918, on the R.M.S. Saxon from New York with the American Expeditionary Force. The division, less artillery & engineers began embarking from New York on May 8th 1918, and began debaking in Englnd on July 17th 1918, the last units arriving in France, August 28, 1918.
From England the troops were transported to France, beginning July 21st, debarking at LeHavre. After training in the vicinity of Chateauvillain, the division, less artillery, left on Aug. 27th 1918, for Gerardmer where it occupied, under French command, a sector in the Vosages until Oct. 11th 1918. On Oct. 27th the division was moved from Gerardmer by rail to the vicinity of Les Islettes and established headquarters at Beauchamp Farm. On Nov. 2nd 1918, the division began to march forward in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. On Nov. 6th 1918, headquarters was established at Stonne. Marched to a sector northeast of Verdun and entered the line on Nov. 14th. Relieved on Nov. 21st, and proceeded to the 14th training area. Nov. 30th 1918, the division headquarters was established at Aignay-le-Duc.
Sgt. Fair sailed on the U.S.S. Leviathan from Brest, France June 5th 1919, & arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey on June 12th 1919. For his service during the Great War, Sgt. Fair is entitled to the Victory Medal with Meuse-Argonne & Defensive Sector Bars.
United States Army 1st Sgt. Frank Fair passed away Dec. 14th 1937. He is buried at the Little Rock National Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas.
